Rapists worst than animals, Lawyer reacts to Life Jail Term

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Kpajie Nnamdi Ibegbu has called for full enforcement of the life jail term recently prescribed by the national assembly for rapists.

He described any human engaging in rape as worst than an animal, saying that the life jail term would go a long way to separating such a person from the society for life.

Speaking to newsmen at his law chambers in Onitsha, Ibegbu described rape as one of the worst crimes any one could commit, adding that it is complete wickedness, man’s inhumanity to fellow man, sheer madness, unnatural and heinous.

“Any rapist is worst than an animal because animals do not engage in rape or use of force to have a sexual relationship with opposite sex or even same sex, rather, they make advances like humans do, as expected.

“It is abominable and a shame for a father to have canal knowledge with his own daughter”.

Ibegbu further noted that the autonomy of the judiciary should have been in practice before now, stressing that the judiciary should not be going cap-in-hand with what belongs to them.

“The judicial officers should be taken care of properly so as to stop the syndrome of he who pays the piper dictates the tune. My late father, as a Chief Magistrate, lived in a palatial home with adequate remunerations.

“Judicial officers need better cars, houses, medical check-up and holidays, as applicable in those colonial days, so that they will not be tempted to deviate,” he added.

Reacting on COVID-19 pandemic, Ibegbu praised both the state and federal governments for their efforts so far in waging a war against the spread of the virus but advised government to provide testing kits and centers to test everybody and ascertain their status.

He observed that security agents made lots of monies during the lockdown to the extent that even though there was a lockdown, there was no real lockdown. He therefore called on security heads to set up monitoring units to monitor the activities of their subordinates to avoid unleashing hardships on Nigerians and at the same time tarnishing the image of their respective agencies.
