The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Anambra State has condemned local government tours of the wife of the state governor, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano.
The party described the tours as heresy, calling on the people of the state, especially women, to rise against such “exuberant audacity”.
In a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Okelo Madukaife on Monday titled:”Ebelechukwu Obiano has no mandate to tour Anambra LGs, spending government funds”, APC said such profligacy must be resisted in the interest of the state.
The statement read in part,” The idea of Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano conducting and heading a command tour of Local Governments of Anambra State under the helpless watch of those who should know better is a heresy that at best confirms with pain that the de facto governor( Mrs Obiano) of Anambra State is the unelected one.
” Ndi Anambra will recall with pain that the de jure governor of Anambra State( Willie Obiano) has not visited local governments in the state in any known tour.
“Our objective here is not to speculate on whether the governor is evading the LGs because he is presiding over their rape financially, but to encourage Anambra State to retrieve the powers that have gone astray by standing up to the fiasco called All Progressives Grand Alliance.
“We need to remind Anambra State women who we respect and hold in high esteem, that the meddlesome activities of Mrs Obiano, under the helpless watch of her husband is distancing women away from power in the eyes of Ndi Anambra.”
“Hence, in the spirit of self-preservation, the women of Anambra State should rise in unison and call Mrs Obiano to order, in order not to harden the ground, as she is doing already against women”
Reacting, National coordinator of APGA Media Warriors, Chinedu Obigwe, said the tours were not funded by the state government.
He asked the APC scribe to make available proof of the State government fund he claimed the governor’s wife was using to tour the LGAs.
He said, “I challenge Okelo Mmadukaife to produce evidence of the State government fund he claimed that Osodieme( governor’s wife) is using to tour Anambra LGAs.
