Traditional ruler of Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra State, HRH Dr. Beneth Emeka (Oke Ebo of Umueri) has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his decision to name the cargo and passenger airport built by his predecessor, Dr. Willie Obiano at Umueri after Chinua Achebe.
The eminent Royal Highness who spoke to reporters at Paul University after conferring him with the honorary Doctorate Degree, PhD in Business Administration, said the Governor had invited him seek his opinion on the matter and he happily gave his consent.
Hear him: “Governor Chukwuma Soludo gave me the honour by inviting me to the Government House and asked me what I feel about the decision to name the airport after Chinua Achebe.
“I felt honoured for the invitation and told him that Chinua Achebe is a true and worthy son of Anambra state and a global literary icon”. Igwe Emeka further noted that since Umueri would still be there as “Chinua Achebe passenger and cargo airport, Umueri” Anambra state, it is a win win situation.
The Royal Father commended the Acting Vice Chancellor of Paul university, Prof Obiora Nwosu and the management of the institution for noting the little he has done in the University and decided to honour him with the honorary Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Business Administration, adding that he would be spurred to do more for “this university of repute”.
Igwe Emeka tasked the youths especially the under graduates to focus on their education and shun anti social activities and lifestyle like cultism, kidnapping, truancy, adding that they should allow their teachers to bake them instead of being a half-baked graduates who will find it difficult to get worthwhile employment.
In his remarks, Pro Chancellor of Paul university, Engr. Sir Chris Okoye highlighted the managerial competency of the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Obiora Nwosu and the indefatigable, dynamic and innovative virtues Provost of the Post Graduate School, Prof Godwin Onu.
He urged them to make the citadel of learning one of the best in the country.
Also speaking to the media, Archbishop of Enugu Anglican church diocese, Most Rev Emmanuel Chukwuma, took swipe at the federal government on the unspeakable privation and hardship the masses are going through believing that the issue of subsidy is a scam and fraud.
He said the supposed gain from removing the subsidy is being enjoyed by the federal legislators while the masses have not had their welfare improved, saying that it has all been “a selective negligence in the disbursement of the socalled fuel subsidy palliative”.
On the Chicago University Certificate saga of president Tinubu, the fiery and vocal Minister of God believed that the issue has been an international odium to the country.
Hear him: “A situation where political leaders are wallowing in the atmosphere of forgery is sad. You cannot be a leader of Nigeria without integrity, it is a disgraceful act”.
He said that INEC must be serious in scrutinizing certificates of aspiring political activists who want to contest political positions.
