Auto Crash Claims 14 Politicians In Zamfara, Many Injured

It was a sad day in Zamfara on Wednesday as no fewer than fourteen politicians who were allegedly rushing to meet up with the state Governor’s convoy died in a fatal road accident.

The accident which occurred on Wednesday saw three vehicles colliding with a BUA cement trailer.

It was gathered that fourteen of the politicians died on the spot, while several politicians sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident.

The politicians in the state had gone to receive the Governor at the border between Zamfara and Katsina States where the three vehicles collided with BUA cement trailer along Gusau- Zaria road.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mohammed Shehu, confirmed the incident, saying that those who sustained injuries have been taken to the hospital and responding fine to treatment.

However, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle has condoled the families of all the deceased persons who lost their lives in the accident.

The Governor ordered three-day mourning in honour of the departed souls, saying that all flags should fly at half-mast.

The deceased have been accorded befitting burials attended by hundreds of people.

Just a few months ago, 10 passengers died in road traffic in the same Gusau road. The accident which claimed 10 passengers left 45 other passengers injured.

According to a statement released by Zamfara State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Muhammad Shehu, it reads, “With all sadness and sorrow, the Zamfara police command wishes to announce the death of 10 passengers following their involvement in a fatal motor vehicle accident along Kasuwar Daji – Gusau road.

On 18th April 2020, at about 2100hours, a trailer vehicle conveying passengers and goods from Kasuwar Daji Market was involved in a fatal accident.

The incident which resulted in the death of 10 passengers on the spot, also led to 45 others sustaining various degrees of injuries.”
