Arewa northern youths have expressed support for the End SARS protest. The Northern youth body urged authorities and the people to work together to tackle the problem.

It stated that the End SARS protest is a great opportunity to challenge the system and tackle socio-developmental issues.

At a press briefing in Kano on Sunday, the Convener, Mohammad Dahiru Lawal said the youths have a right to demand an end to Police brutality. He further called on all protesters to remain peaceful and adhere to democratic tenets in their agitation.

Arewa Agenda, however, cautioned the government to avoid any form of violent reaction against innocent citizens and equally warned citizen to avoid violence in the course of the protests.

“We are concerned about the possible escalation to violent situations where innocent lives and properties will end up bearing the brunt. This is in view in some instances across the continent”, Lawal said.

“Years after the Libyan uprising in 2011, the country continues to struggle to end the conflict and rebuild institutions. Tunisia’s fledgling democracy since the Arab spring is still struggling; economic crisis and political disaffection threaten its stability.

“In Nigeria, we must not subject our beloved country through similar torturous experience. Majority of our members and the young population are victims of ASUU strike; prospective NYSC members have been at home idling away; unemployed graduates are struggling.”
Lawal appealed to the youths not to relent in championing the cause of equity and justice

He advised the youths to avoid “the temptation of succumbing to devilish intents or capitalizing on the protest for ulterior undertakings”.
