Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) Anambra State Command have arrested four personnel of some unregistered rivate security guards.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command Okadigbo Edwin (DSC) revealed this in a press release made available to journalists on Thursday.
Edwin said that the arrested suspects are: Jubril Isah Samuel, Nzekwe Samson Kosi, Aneke Chidiebere and Egwuda David Ojochegbe.
Two pump action shotgun according to him were also recovered from the arrested suspects.
He said that the suspects were arrested at various points in Awka following credible intelligence worked upon by the Corps.
“The arrest and recovery of the two pump action gun became imperative following discovery that most of those operating as private security outfits failed to adhere to the general regulations governing the operation and activities of Private Guard Companies. as enshrined in the NSCDC Act Section 3, subsection b, c, d of 2007 as amended and in line with The Private Guards Companies Act Cap. P30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.” He said.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Commandant of NSCDC, Isidore Chukwudi Chikere in his determination to professionalize the industry has mandated the Private Guard Company Department to rid the state of all unregistered Private security outfits providing services to the financial sector, the private sector and many commercial ventures without proper licensing by the Federal Government through the NSCDC across the State.
He warned intending new operators to adhere strictly to the guidelines and conditions stipulated by law for the operation of Private Guard Company or face the wrath of the law.
