100 Bishops, 3 govs, ministers, others for Awka diocesan Synod

Over 100 bishops, three governors and four Ministers are expected to be in Awka, Anambra state for the 2nd session of the 12th Synod of the Anglican communion.

The synod, which is being hosted by the Diocese of Awka at St Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church Nawfia, would also witness the presence of over 15 governorship aspirants in the fortcoming election in the state.

Addressing newsmen on Sunday in Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, Chairman, Central Planning Committee, Dr. Emma Ezenwaji expressed the church’s preparedness to host a hitch free Synod in terms of security, health and other logistics.

He said the theme of the synod is, “Expanding our ministerial coast, implications for the ordained and the laity drawn from Luke 5: 1-13 and Isaiah 54: 1-8.

He said, “We’re anticipating more than 100 bishops, three governors, four ministers, over 15 gubernatorial aspirants in the November 6 election.

“We’re also expecting the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano and the wife, Mrs Ebelechukwu at the occasion being his last Synod as the governor. Delegates from 89 parishes and 17 archdeaconry would be in attendance.

“The synod will open with the opening service and plenary session to discuss important issues in the dioceses, while the Archbishop, Most Rev Alexander Ibezim will deliver his presidential address on Saturday.

“On Sunday, will be the synod Thanksgiving where the delegates will thank God for his mercies. We expect that this year will be a remarkable one as security measures has been set aside to ensure peaceful conduct of the synod.”

On his part, Local Organizing Committee Chairman, Mr. Obinna Etele described the hosting right as a privilege for the Nawfia community.

“Nawfia is well secured and ready to host the event. A lot of commitment has been put in because we’re not unmindful of the security situation in the state and the country at large.

“Things are getting better in Anambra. We pray that God will demonstrate his power in the meeting so that peace will be restored in the state.”
