Two killed in Anambra Multiple auto accidents

Two persons lost their lives while six escaped in a multiple auto accidents along Nnewi-Otolo Road, Anambra state.

The accident which occurred around 2.48pm involved an Astra Shuttle Bus with registration number ABN621YP, a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number AGL739DX and a Honda Kymco motorcycle without registration number.

The Sector Public Education Officer,
Federal Road Safety Corps, Pascal Anigbo confirmed the crash, saying it was caused by over-speeding and Loss of Control.

He said, “At about 2.48pm today Thursday 23 July, 2020 a Fatal Multiple Road Traffic Crash was recorded near Organizer Filling Station, Owerri Road, along Nnewi-Otolo Road.

“The vehicles involved include an Astra Shuttle Bus with registration number ABN621YP, a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number AGL739DX and a Honda Kymco motorcycle without registration number.

“A total of Nine people (6 males and 3females) were involved in the crash.

“Two victims (1 male and 1 female), rushed to the Akwudo Hospital Nnewi, by sympathizers, before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team from Nnewi Unit Command, were confirmed dead by doctors at the hospital.

“The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, Andrew A. Kumapayi strongly warns drivers against driving above recommended speed limits, especially within built-up areas.

“He advises drivers to always drive with common sense speed limits and tolerate other road users. He sends his condolences to the families of the dead victims.”
