The commercial city of Aba, Abia State was thrown into mourning yesterday when the corpse of a yet to be identified nine boy was brought out from a drainage.
Daily Vendor gathered that the boy said to be within the age of nine was swept away by a raging flood from an uncovered drainage at Ama-Ogbonna, Over-Rail, Aba on Tuesday evening during a downpour.
Eyewitnesses told our reporter that the boy was a Garden Egg hawker, and was returning from his daily sales activities when he met his untimely death.
“His death was very painful. He was returning from where he went to hawk Garden Egg when there was a rainfall and everywhere was flooded so this little boy w mistakenly fell inside the gutter and nobody could see him again.
“This incident happened on Tuesday evening, but it was today Wednesday by 6pm that people were able to find his dead body.
“It was not really as if anybody was search for him before he was seen, but the corpse was seen when someone’s slippers mistakenly fell into the same gutter, and while trying to use rake to bring it out, the boy’s corpse was seen.
“The government should come here and close the Osusu road gutter linking Ama-Ogbonna to Okigwe road. This gutter is widely open and too dangerous for even adults.
“How can children survive in this environment? Imagine if it were school children returning from school? Many of them would have died in the same way. May God console the family of this little boy.”
