Suspected hoodlums on Sunday killed the Ward Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gboko local government area of Benue State, Tersoo Ahu.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi, said preliminary investigation revealed that suspected hoodlums who were allegedly from a faction of APC in the council ward carried out the attack at the party’s registration and revalidation training centre.
According to her, the deceased, and other party members were at the venue of the training when the hoodlums arrived.
She said the APC chieftain was hit on the head with wood by the hoodlums and was rushed to the hospital after he collapsed at the scene.
He was confirmed dead at the hospital.
Anene said: “The youth, who claimed to be a faction within the APC, mobilised and attacked the deceased and others where they were conducting training for ward and polling unit officers for the party’s registration and revalidation exercise.
“They claimed it was not the venue that they had agreed for the training of the officers.
“They came violently with stones, wood and started throwing stones. One of them hit the chairman with wood and he fell down.
“He was rushed to the hospital where he died.”
She disclosed that several people were also injured in the incident.
