Security Trust Fund hands over 10 vehicles to Anambra govt

The Anambra State Security Trust Fund has handed over 10 Units of security vehicles to the State Government, as part of efforts to intensify security operations by the State Vigilante Groups, AVGs, across the state.

The vehicles were handed over by the Chairman of the Fund’s Board of Trustees, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, and were received on behalf of the state government by the State Commissioner for Homeland Affairs, Chief Chikodi Anara and the Special Adiver to the State Governor on Security Matters, Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi.

Recall that Governor Chukwuma Soludo had upon assumption of office, reinvigorated the State Security Trust Fund, inviting hi-networth Anambra indigenes to luncheons in Abuja and Lagos, to raise funds for the effective functioning of the Fund.

Handing over the vehicles to the State Government at the Government House, Awka, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Board, Chief Anyaegbu revealed that the 10 units is the first phase of the 100 units of security vehicles which the Fund plans to procure for the State Vigilante Group.

Anyaegbu commended governor Soludo for his support and encouragement to the Fund, which has made their work seamless.

“With this support and the efforts of the security agencies, the spate of insecurity will be reduced.

“The vehicles are specially equipped with communication gadgets to ensure efficiency in the operations of the Vigilante men.

“I also want to appreciated the efforts of members of the Board and Anambra people who donated generously to the Trust Fund and I want to encourage them to do more,” he pleaded.

Receiving the vehicles, the Homeland Affairs Commissioner, Chief Anara, lauded the governor for his commitment to the fight against insurgency, kidnapping, armed robbery and all sorts of unreasonable killings in the state.

“When Mr Governor assumed office less than two years ago, he promised to deliver a liveable and prosperous homeland to the people and ever since he has remained committed to that course to ensure that people can come here and do their genuine businesses.

“At that time, 8 local governments, 7 in the South and one in the North Senatorial zone, have been taken over by hoodlums making life very horrible for people. Their aim was not just the killings but also to drown the economy of Anambra State.

“Mr governor however set to work and rescued the LGAs and took back our state.

“In the process, he initiated so many ideas, including reinvigoration of the Fund, which saw many Anambra citizens start donating to the course.

“The only reason they bought into the diea was because of the implicit confidence and trust they have in the governor and the leadership of the trust fund. What we are seeing today, is the result of that trust,” he said.

The commissioner promised that the vehicles will be put to very judicious use, expressing the belief that the governor will succeed in delivering the state from the clutches of criminals.
