Police nab 5 suspects in Anambra, recover firearms

CP Charges Operatives To Sustain War On Crime

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Monday Bala Kuryas(CP) has charged operatives of the command to sustain and increase the tempo on the onslaught against crime in the state.

The CP made this charge on Sunday as the operatives of the command successfully arrested five male suspects for offences of unlawful possession of firearm, cultism, spying and impersonation.

The Command also recovered two firearms with ammunition of different calibres and one suspected military cap.

The Police Public Relations Officer PPRO of the command, Ikenga Tochukwu (DSP) said that on Thursday at about 4:30pm, the combined patrol of police operatives from Awada Divisional Headquarters with the Vigilante Operatives arrested twenty two year old Ifeanyi Eze, Okeke Arinze and Ezeugo Friday and recovered a locally made double barrel gun, two live cartridges, six live English pistol ammunition and two live Beretta pistol ammunition from the trio.

Tochukwu said that the suspects were arrested when they drove in a suspected manner on a motorcycle without a plate number along Ugwuagba.

He said that further revelations led to the arrest of their gang leader along Okopoko and efforts are being intensified to arrest other fleeing members.

The PPRO said that the suspects have confessed to be members of a deadly criminal gang.

Tochukwu said that in the same vein police operatives attached to Awada Divisional Headquarters on Saturday at about 4:30pm arrested twenty year old Uchenna Igwe.

One locally made revolver pistol, two live AK 47 ammunition and four expended AK 47 ammunition according to the PPRO were recovered from him.

He said that Uchenna Igwe at the time of his arrest was with two gang members along CT Biscuits Owerri road by Mgbuka market who took to their heels on sighting police operatives on patrol.

Tochukwu said that efforts are in top gear to arrest the two other fleeing gang members.

Also on Saturday, the PPRO said police operatives attached to Anti-Cultism unit, at about 6.00pm arrested twenty three year old Uzodimma Emmauel a native of Uturu, Isukwuato L.G.A.,Imo State and a suspected military cap was recovered from him.

He was said to have been arrested while spying Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) Headquarters, Enugu Ukwu.

The PPRO said that the suspect when accosted could not give satisfactory answer and claimed to be a Lance Corpoal with the Nigerian Army.
