The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has rejected the position of the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly as being speculated.
The President General, Hon. Goodluck Ibem in a statement, demanded that the mandate given by Nigerians to the Labour Party, LP, Presidential Candidate Mr Peter Obi be restored back to him.
He said it was an insult to pacify the people of the zone with number three position, stressing that the Southeast Senators aspiring for the office are doing so for themselves and not representatives of the people of the region.
The statement reads, “The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, the apex socio-political youth group in South East geopolitical zone state emphatically that the people of South East don’t want the Senate President of the 10th Senate but want the mandate given by Nigerians to the Labour Party, LP, Presidential Candidate Mr Peter Obi restored back to him.
“It is an insult for someone who was elected as number one, to be pacified with a rubber stamp number three position. Those Senators from South East aspiring to be elected as the Senate President of the 10th Senate are doing so for themselves and not represent the political interest of the people of South East.
“Ndigbo are united on this and we will not renege from our support for Mr Peter Obi who clearly won the 25 February, 2023 presidential election.
“Our support for Mr Peter Obi is not because he is from South East, but because he has what it takes to bring the country out of the woods and he clearly won the presidential election.
“The country is heavily indebted both internally and externally and Mr Peter Obi is fully prepared and equipped to pay-off our nation’s debts and also move the nation from consumption to production. Mr Peter Obi as President will greatly benefit the nation.
“The person who rigged to be declared president-elect should step down and we will freely zone the Senate Presidency to his geopolitical zone.”
