Osimhen expresses commitment to Napoli as club’s Tik Tok manager bows out

Victor Osimhen, says he will continue to wear the Napoli badge with honour despite persistent talks about a misunderstanding between the striker and the Italian champions.

The Super Eagles striker made this known in an official statement on Sunday.

Recall that Osimhen had been the subject of two videos posted to Napoli’s official TikTok account, one of which mocked his penalty miss against Bologna, whilst the second compared him to a coconut.

The situation left last season’s top scorer furious, as well as upsetting a number of his close colleagues, supporters and government officials in Nigeria.

There have been talks of the 24-year-old leaving the Italian outfits at the end of the season with some even suggesting that the player could go as early as January.

Osimhen however on Sunday revealed his commitment to the people of Napoli and the club.

He said, “Coming to the City of Naples in 2020 was a wonderful decision for me. The People of Napoli have shown me so much love and kindness, and I will not allow anyone to come between us.

“The passion of the People of Naples fuels my fire to always play with my heart and soul, and the love for the badge is unwavering as I wear it with pride.

“The accusations against People of Naples are untrue. I have a lot of friends who are Napolitans and have become part of my family and everyday life. I appreciate Nigerians and everyone for lending their voices to support and reach out to me. I’m forever grateful. Let’s support unity, respect and understanding.”

Napoli also confirmed on Sunday that they have officially parted company with social media executive Alessio Fortino following the aftermath of the Osimhen-themed TikToks recently posted to the club’s social media channels.

Following the backlash, Fortino, who had been with Napoli for two-and-a-half years, left his position.

However, it was later assured to media sources that Fortino had already decided some time ago to step down and this was in no way connected to the Osimhen situation.

Fortino had not produced the TikToks himself, but the person who did has already personally apologised to Osimhen himself.

Fortino released a personal statement breaking the news of his departure from Napoli, but did not make any reference to Osimhen or the posts on TikTok.

It instead read: “Today, after 805 days, my professional adventure with SSC Napoli comes to an end. For many, this job would be a dream, for me, it was a daily reality.

A reality built on commitment and fuelled by the continuous desire to learn.

“I cannot help but express my profound gratitude to all my colleagues, collaborators, partners and the fans I met during this long journey for making this experience so special. I leave the company with a wealth of extraordinary memories and enthusiasm for the new adventures that await me. Thanks again for everything and see you soon! Alessio.”
