The Anambra state government has ordered for the immediate re-opening of all the sixty three markets in the State on Monday, 4th of May, 2020.
Governor Willie Obiano revealed this today, shortly after a closed-door meeting with market leaders in the state.
According to the Governor, “markets will open only after they must have participated in the training organized by the state government. The meeting resolved that the markets will close early, to avoid the usual rush associated with closing late, adding that Anambra boundaries remain closed”.
He added “Each market must have a COVID19 team that will have the responsibility of enforcing preventive codes and guidelines which includes compulsory wearing of face masks, provision of running water, hand sanitizers, physical distancing, among others”.
Obiano urged industrialists in the State to re-open, but having the COVID19 directives in mind. He stressed that the only condition for re-opening of the markets is to have the COVID19 teams ready, saying that markets which are not ready, will not be allowed to open, THE DAILY VENDOR reports.
However, he pointed out that NCDC has agreed to upgrade the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, to a test center, Governor Obiano said that his administration is weighing the options while gradually re-opening all segments of the State, adding that Anambra schools are still shut, as well as the civil service structure.
Though close source revealed that the civil service offices will resume few weeks after the market activities are in top gear.
