Nigerian army warns against trouble making amidst peaceful protest

The Nigerian army has warned against trouble-making in the on-going nationwide protest. This warning came as protesters were attacked by unidentified men with machetes in the capital, Abuja which the protesters tagged ‘PRO-SARS’.

The protests have continued despite authorities agreeing to disband the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (Sars). The army spokesman Col Sagir Musa said in a Facebook post that “The NA (Nigerian army) hereby warns all subversive elements and trouble makers to desist from such acts as it remains highly committed to defend the country and her democracy at all cost”.

On Wednesday, unidentified men with matches attacked the protesters in the city of Abuja.Witnesses said several hundred demonstrators were gathered in the city when the attack took place. However,it was gathered that some of the assailants were later caught and handed over to the authorities.

The protest continued,as the people rejected the announcement of a new unit – the Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) team as they see it as not enough reform of the police.
