NGO seeks end to violence against women and girls

Worried by the rampant cases of violence against women and girls , Outside School Education Foundation (OSEF) Karu in Nasarawa State in collaboration with European Union and United Nations Agencies organised a one day strategy meeting for it’s volunteers on effective advocacy on reporting violent against women and girls (VAWG).

The Spotlight Initiative is a global, multi-year partnership between the European Union and the United Nation (EU-UN) Agencies to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. Spotlight responds to all forms of violence against women and girls, with a particular focus on sexual and gender based violence and harmful practices. The Initiative is so named as it brings focused attention to this issue, moving it into the Spotlight and placing it at the center to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment.

OSEF noted that according to the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) the world’s largest targeted effort is to end all forms of violence against women and girls.

Women Rights Advancement and Protective Alternative (WRAPA) an NGO of former First Lady Justice Fati Abubakar has been mandated to handle the project in some States of the federation including Abuja. For effective coverage and the achievement of social change in SGBV, VAWG, HP, GEWE with particular focus on rapes and the need for the government to implement the VAPPs Act,

Our NGO – Outside School Education Foundation (OSEF) is privileged to be selected to work with WRAPA so as to achieve the aforementioned goals. OSEF is working in the intervention of eliminating all forms of discrimination against women focusing in providing out of school education for all women and girls that are not able to go for formal education thereby lack reading and writing ability. Our intervention addresses SDGs goal number 4, 5, 10 and 17 respectively. “”
Specific objectives of the meeting was
to upscale OSEF members and prospective members on the overview of VAWG/SGBV/HP and to acquaint them with the basics of advocating against sexual gender based using social media.

The social media is chosen as an alternative to campaigns and one – on – one sensitization following Coronavirus outbreak. Our NGO also carries out sensitizations, campaign, outreach and others.
