Traditional Ruler of Nkwelle-Ezunaka in Oyi Council Area of Anambra state, Igwe Sir Obiorah Anachuna has assured that no effort would be spared in the ongoing move to unite all members of the community.
He stressed the need to create a condusive environment for the reign of peace by ensuring youths in the community acquired necessary skills to enable them to be self reliant.
The monarch, few months ago was crowned the Traditional Ruler of his community, following a keenly contested election with five others where he scored more than half of the entire votes.
He succeeded Igwe Raphael Nwakoby who joined his ancestors about 20 years ago.
Speaking during a chat with newsmen in his palace, Anachuna vowed to carry everybody along, including his co-contestants, even as he acknowledged solidarity visit of some of the contestants.
He said, “There is need to create a condusive environment for the reign of peace by ensuring that the youths acquired the necessary skills that will enable them to be self reliance.
“I’m favourably disposed to provide the necessary tools that will enable these young people do something for themselves to earn a decent living.
“People should start thinking of what they will do for their community not always depending on government for everything.
“Nkwelle-Ezunaka will key into the one-youth-two-skills programme of the present administration in the state.”
The Traditional Ruler further underscored the need to equip the youths to be able to face the challenges of the next century, stressing that education would continue to receive priority attention in his community.
“In the past, Nkwelle-Ezunaka produced individuals in the class of renowned writers like Cyprian Ekwensi and Igwe Raphael
Nwakoby.
“Nkwelle-Ezunaka indigenes living in Canada and united States of America are sponsoring students admitted to read medicine, law and Engineering, as part of efforts to ensure that the community occupies it rightful place in Anambra state.”
The monarch however expressed displeasure with activities of certain youths in the area who engaged in indiscriminate sell of communal lands.
He noted that individuals acquiring communal lands without enquiring from elders or councillors about the true owners of the lands were only aiding and abetting criminality.
He said he was working closely with the President-General of the community and the Vigilante groups to ensure people slept with their two eyes closed.
“We’ve been having series of meetings with different groups and stakeholders on how to move the community forward,” he added.
While praising Governor Chukwuma Soludo for ongoing development of the state, the royal father appealed to him to consider awarding contract for construction of the Oze nkwelle-uruebo road which he described as very strategic and would help decongest heavy traffic experienced in Onitsha metropolis.
