A one-storey building housing female students of the Loretto Special Science School, Adazi-Nnukwu, in Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra state burst into flames Friday evening.
Our correspondent who visited the scene of the inferno said there were no casualties, but that the one-storey building hostel was badly burnt before the arrival of fire fighters.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Uchechukwu Asadu, who arrived the scene with his men and a team of fire fighters, told our correspondent that he made frantic efforts to get fire fighters to the scene immediately he received the distress call.
The firemen who were later joined by another team of fire fighters from the state’s government house battled to stop the fire from spreading to other buildings in the school.
An eyewitness, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, criticized the fire service for ‘the late response’. The Reverend Sister who spoke in tears, said the school management called the fire service immediately the fire began, but that after more than an hour of the raging fire they were still yet to respond.
One of the Video clips made available to Fox Channel showed firemen trying to bring the fire under control.
