Economic challenges not licence to indulge in criminality – Anambra monarch

Traditional ruler of Obosi community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, HRM Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III of Obosi Ukwalla ancient kingdom) has advised Obosi residents to shun robbery, kidnapping, cultism, hard drugs, fraud and other forms of criminality.

The monarch who made the call in his palace during the prestigious annual Obiora festival, said prevailing economic situation in the state and country at large was not an excuse to indulge in any form of criminality.

He said, “Yes we know that you are all going through very difficult times not only in Obosi but in the entire country, but that is no excuse to indulge in any form of criminality.

“Criminals always get caught in the end, either by the long hands of the law or by the mighty hands of God. Nemesis will catch up with you sooner or later. Find other possible legal alternatives to make money, no matter how lowly.

“It is time for our young men of Obosi to emulate fellow Igbo youths in learning trades, skills and engaging in various commercial ventures.”

The Royal Father also called on the five South East Governors and other Igbo stakeholders to urgently convene a Consultative Assembly to tackle terrorism and insecurity in Igboland.

He regretted that such spate of terrorism witnessed in some parts of the states was alien to the SE geopolitical zone before now.

He said, “In consideration of the deliberately-imported terrorism in Igboland, I hereby call on Igbo stakeholders, billionaires and think-tanks, to urgently convene a Consultative Assembly in conjunction with State Governments, Traditional rulers, and Presidents General (PGs) to devise effective modalities to rescue Igboland from the clutches of imported terrorists and kidnappers.”

President-General of Obosi Development Union, Barrister Chimezie Obi disclosed that the town union, under his leadership has devised a means of raiding criminal hideouts frequently to wipe out criminals from the area.

Obi disclosed that during the most recent episode of such a raid, about eight suspected criminals were apprehended from their hideouts with their dangerous weapons and handed them over to the police for thorough investigations and possible prosecution.

“We will no longer fold our hands and watch criminals overrun this community as they did in the past, to the extent of assassinating the past President-General of ODU, Chief Ikechukwu Okolo just because he was trying to fight them to a standstill,” Obi affirmed.

Highlights of the occasion after the cutting of the yam (ikpoonunu) and feeding the children includes the chieftaincy decoration and honoring of Chief Sir Chibuzor Okeke from Nkpor community with the title of “Okeosisi Obosi’ by Eze Iweka III na Ndi Ichie Obosi.

Responding after the chieftaincy title, Chief Sir Chibuzor Okeke (Okeosisi Obosi) eulogized Igwe Dubem Iweka as an accommodative king which recognizes the good in others praying God to prosper his reign.
