Four dead, properties destroyed as communities clash over land dispute in Anambra

The Odekpe town and Alla community, both in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State have been thrown into mourning following communal clash over land disputes leaving no fewer than four persons dead and many properties destroyed.

THE DAILY VENDOR correspondence gathered that the clash started on Monday, when youths of both communities mobilized themselves, armed with dangerous weapons and confronted each other over a lingering boundary dispute.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC spokesperson in Anambra, Mr Edwin Okadigbo who confirmed the death of four indigenes of the area said the escalation of hostilities was averted by the Anambra West Divisional office.

Okadigbo, while confirming the deaths said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the two communities clashed and in the process, four (4) persons were said to have lost their lives. One other was reportedly kidnapped, while most houses were burnt and properties were destroyed.

“The State Command has dispatched Operatives of Peace and Conflicts Unit, Intelligence unit and other tactical squads of the Command to the area to avert further clashes, and in the maintenance of law and order.

Meanwhile he revealed that Commandant, David Bille has ordered a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing and culprits brought to justice.
