Church warns against Islamization of Nigeria, elects new leader

Central Christian Fellowship Mission Inc. of Nigeria has warned against what it called the evil effect of tilting towards Islamizing the country.

The Church said the approach had begun to generate religious and ethnic feuds capable of disintegrating Nigeria. It said that the hallowed provision of freedom of worship in Nigerian Constitution must be respected to ensure peaceful coexistence.

The Church gave the warning at the weekend during the election of its national superintendent in Nnewi, Anambra State. It is worried about killings in many parts of the country, kidnapping, cultism and other social vices that had refused to abate despite the efforts of security agencies.

It also expressed concern over increasing cases of corrupt practices in public and private establishments to the detriment of Nigerian masses “who are always at the receiving end.” It enjoined religious leaders to redirect their focus on prayers for people at the corridors of power to always come up with policies and programmes implementation geared towards ameliorating the sufferings of the masses.

The Church election produced Rev Chibuike Nwachukwu who had a total of 94 votes to become the new Superintendent while Apostle Ben Goodland and Rev Loveday came behind with 78 and 3 votes, respectively.

The election which took place at the Church national headquarters, Uruagu Nnewi had Evangelist Chris Udegbunam;
Deacon Chibuike Agbo; Deacon Ikechukwu Ndubisi; Deaconess Agnes Akor and Deacon Obiora Udekwe as members of the electoral board committee.

At the event, national administrative board representatives were Evangelist (Mrs) Pauline Maduakor (founder); Rev Godwin Chukwubuikem (General Secretary) and Rev Chris Okorie ( Nnewi district leader).

Inauguration of the new Superintendent whose tenure will run for five years, according to the Church authorities, would take place at the national headquarters very soon.
