Benin Republic to become the 37th state of Nigeria

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said that the President of the Republic of Benin, Patrice Talon, has expressed Benin’s desire to become the 37th state of Nigeria.

Onyeama said after a closed-door meeting with Benin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Aurélien Agbenonci, that the offer was made by the President of Benin during his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari a few weeks ago.

He said.

“The president of Benin said that for them, this is what they want (and not only that), but that in reality, Benin should be the 37th state of Nigeria.

“We should really be one. They have instructed us to come together at the ministerial meeting to develop a framework for a lasting relationship”.
Onyeama also revealed that the two presidents also discussed an agreement between the two countries to end the smuggling problem once and for all.
