Baby, 10 others escape in Anambra auto crash

Eleven persons, including a child escaped death on Saturday in a motor accident along Awka-Onitsha expressway, Anambra state.

The accident which occurred around 11.50am, near Igbariam Junction, involved a Toyota Hiace with enlistment number UGB822XA, driven and Toyota Camry with registration number AGL71FK.

Confirming the incident to The DAILY VENDOR, the Ag. Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Kamal Musa said no injury nor death was recorded.

He said, “At about 11.50am today Saturday 15 August, 2020 a minor Road Traffic Crash (RTC) involving a Toyota Hiace with enlistment number UGB822XA, driven and Toyota Camry with registration number AGL71FK, was recorded near Igbariam Junction, along Awka-Onitsha expressway.

“The crash was caused by wrongful overtaking. It also involved a total of Eleven (11) people (7 male adults, 3 female adults and 1 male child).

“FRSC rescue team from Nteje Unit Command are on ground managing traffic, while arrangement to clear the obstruction caused is being made.

“The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, Andrew Kumapayi admonishes motorists to always drive with maximum concentration. Drivers should be very observant while on the wheels.

“Overtaking should be done only when it is absolutely safe to do so. Motorists are also reminded that due to the ongoing construction works on that route, vehicles are diverted to one lane and this calls for more caution. Road traffic crashes are avoidable.”
