Aronu remains Amawbia President General – Anambra govt insists

Anambra State government has reaffirmed Engr. Godwin Chinyelu Aronu as President General, Amawbia Town Union (ATU) in Awka South Local Government Area of the State.

Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon Tony Collins Nwabunwanne disclosed this while reacting to a petition from Supreme Head of Traditions and Customs in Amawbia, High Chief Ugochimaleze Dan Maduka [Isi Ozo-Ichie-Ukwu Amawbia].

The petition followed a gang-up against the President General headed by one Emeka Maduka who paraded himself as “Osojeze Amawbia”

The Commissioner in his letter to the leadership of Amawbia community, vide: MLGCA/CM/010/11/21 of April 28, 2023, condemned unlawful action of Emeka Maduka for purportedly removing Aronu as President General of Amawbia town union.

He described the act as totally unacceptable capable of breeding crisis in the community.

The Commissioner said: “Mr Aronu Godwin Chinyelu remains the President General of Amawbia town union until December 3, 2024, when the tenure of his executive will elapse.

“Aronu’s executive remains in charge of the implementation of resolutions of the Amawbia General Council. Any individual involved in this unlawful removal is hereby warned to desist from such act to avoid serious sanction from the state government”.

Maduka, in a chat with reporters, expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his immediate response to his petition on the smoldering fire stoked by Emeka Maduka to throw the community into distabilisation of the town’s union which he described as uncalled-for.

He condemned the gang-up which he attributed to the PG’s stoppage of illegal sale of land belonging to the community, commending Aronu for his transparency and accountability in the running of the affairs of the town union.

Maduka, a former President General said prompt attention given to his petition confirmed Soludo’s grim efforts to ensure peace and sustained socioeconomic growth and development of the communities.

“Emeka Maduka has been parading himself as “Osojeze Amawbia” but the process for confirming the exalted title was not completed since the traditional chieftain who was to do so died six hours before the event and therefore has no traditional authority to sack the President General”, he said.

While advising Aronu to continue the good work he is doing, Supreme Head of Traditions and Customs in Amawbia urged the community to resist the manipulation of disoriented, even as he warned youths to stop being thugs to persons with integrity deficit.

Reacting, President General thanked the Commissioner for restoring normalcy to the community and commended Maduka’s grim efforts in exposing antics of those with ‘disreputable characters’ attempting to derail the town union administration from accountability and transparency.

Also speaking, Elder George Emuwa thanked Maduka and recalled his selfless services, sincerity to the community since end of the Nigeria-Biafra war and as the President General of Amawbia town union.

“Maduka has always exhibited transparency and accountability in his public duties and relationship with people”, he said.
