Anambra Govt Rescues Mentally Challenged Pregnant teenager in Onitsha


Two mentally challenged persons were rescued by the Anambra State’s Ministry of Women and Children Affairs at Fegge and Onisi Onira Garden Inland Town Onitsha.

The victims, a teenage pregnant woman and another young man, were rescued at Ziks Avenue Fegge and another young man, at Onisi Onira Garden both in the commercial city of the state.

The rescue exercise which is in compliance with the directive by Governor Willie Obiano, was carried out in the early hours of Saturday by the team of social workers led by the Honorable Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue.

Reacting, Commissioner Mezue, who was visibly relieved over the rescue, particularly that of the pregnant teen, explained that he duo were professionally rescued and relocated to government owned facility to be cared for.

She said, “The heavily pregnant teen will be cared in a special facility where she will stay till she delivers, I am much relieved that she has been rescued following calls from concerned citizens.”
