Anambra State Government has disclosed plans to develop cluster sells points within Awka capital to accommodate displaced street traders.
Head of Development Control, Awka Capital Territory Development Agency (ACTDA), Mr Charles Ekwunife stated this when he led a team to sensitize members of the public on government policies towards making Awka a mega city.
He said government have designated various temporary locations for the traders who had been causing obstruction in major roads across the capital city to continue their businesses pending the completion of the sells points.
According to him, when the traders move into the designated places, it will be much cheaper and safer for them rather than displaying their goods and wares along the streets of Awka.
He said, “The Awka Capital Territory Development Agency( ACTDA), has underscores the importance to enhance the beauty of the environment in line with the Governor Soludo’s idea of creating a liveable and prosperous Homeland.
“To this end, all shop and business owners within the state capital are directed to immediately use yellow Aluco board with black write ups as signposts in order to give the capital city a desirable outlook.
“The aim of government is to have an organised uniformed city outlook as every shop is expected to give a distance of four foot from the drainage channels across the state.”
Ekwunife however explained that traders were permitted to have a canopy in front of their shops but that such must not be extended more than a foot from the building.
While appealed to those concerned to cooperate with the government to ensure Awka was raised to status befiting of a state capital, ACTDA boss promised the enforcement would be continuous with more severe measures to keep things in order.
He noted that the present administration had also approved that containers were no longer allowed along the major streets across the state capital.
