ANAMBRA: Anam-Nzam road project ready in four weeks, says Contractor

Inspite of the harsh economic situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, work is ongoing at the eleven kilometer Mmiata-Anam-Nzam road in Anambra west local government area as earthwork and beams on the bridge is set to be completed in four weeks time.

The contractor gave this assurance to Governor Willie Obiano when the governor inspected launch of the last beam on the one hundred and twenty meters long bridge.

THE DAILY VENDOR correspondent reports that the bridge has six spans and earthwork has been done on eight kilometers of the road while the remaining three kilometers leads to Nzam community.

The governor noted that he is keen to witnessing a tarred road and stressed that he is resolute about completing the road.

He added that the bridge will create a connection between Nzam and Anambra market because of food produce mainly from Nzam instead of through Kogi and Delta states. This will always improve the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

While describing the road as key to the development of the area, the governor added that once the earthwork is done before the rain comes fully, asphalt will commence afterwards, stating that it is the promise he made to them at the inception of his administration and assured that his administration is committed to opening up critical areas of food production to ensure food security.

The Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor, who explained that the road is eleven kilometers, confirmed that the contractor has promised to complete the road within the stipulated time.

Engineer Ifejiofor assured that his Ministry will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the road is well executed.

Responding, the Kanubeen Construction Company Ltd., contractor handling the project, Mr. Johnny, who thanked the governor for the support given to them, said that they will soon put the deck and slabs of the bridge.

Nzam as a town has boundaries in the North with Inoma Akator; in the East with Mmiata-Anam; in the West with the River Niger; and in the South with Umuenwelum Anam
