Threads: Twitter threatens lawsuit against Meta over new platform

The parent company of Meta, Instagram on Wednesday, July 5, introduced Threads, a text-based companion to Instagram that is similar to other text-based social platforms, including Twitter.

Meta owner, Zuckerberg on Thursday, announced that Threads had already signed up 30 million users on its first day, vastly dwarfing competitors.

Hours after the new App was revealed, Alex Spiro, Twitter attorney sent a letter to Meta CEO, Zuckerberg accusing him of misusing the company’s “trade secrets and other intellectual property” to create its Threads app, a rival to Twitter.

The attorney wrote: “Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information.

“Twitter reserves all rights, including, but not limited to, the right to seek both civil remedies and injunctive relief without further notice to prevent any further retention, disclosure, or use of its intellectual property by Meta.”

Spiro also accused Meta of hiring dozens of ex-Twitter employees who had access to Twitter’s trade secrets and other highly confidential information to develop the ‘Threads’ app.
