Shun zoning and seek for competent aspirants, group urge political parties

Foundation of Movement for Good Governance, FMGG an advocacy group has called on all political parties to shun zoning and look for competent politicians to contest the 2021 governorship election in Anambra.

The Director General, Foundation of Movement for Good Governance Dr Patrick Enuneku made the call during the 2nd year FMGG Anniversary Celebration held at Indigo Hotels in Awka on Sunday, June 7th, 2020.

He disclosed that what Anambra State needs is credible and competent politicians from the three senatorial districts of Anambra who could govern the state well, if elected.

“What Anambra requires come the 2021 governorship election in Anambra is to produce a good candidate that will enjoy popular acceptance and support rather than yielding to zoning appeal,”

The advocacy and Good Governance expert, noted that politicians should not blow its chance in the election on the altar of zoning.

“Personally, what I seek is good governance in Anambra, there are capable people who can govern Anambra well, and we have to come to understand that politics has never been a do-or-die affair,” he said.

Dr Patrick also thanked and appreciated all FMGG members, especially those in diaspora chapters such as in USA, Ghana & Germany for their support for good governance as a panacea for justice, equity and even development.

FMGG BOT Chairman, Chief Solomon Nwigwe in his own remark noted that anybody could decide to run under any political party in the election as it was a democracy but that he must subject himself to the wish of the people.

“A lot of conspiracy theories abound in our politics, this much is certain; any political party can file a candidate from Anambra, the people will decide if they want that candidate and party or not.

“We are in a democracy, regardless of the party platform he runs on, he will still subject himself to universal suffrage, he added”.

However, Comr Udoka Izuka, FMGG State Contact & Mobilization Officer adviced aspirants who did not make it in the last election to refrain from making policy statements that may marr the sustainability of good governance in the state.

“ This is not a period of distracting the peaceful existence of the state, wether good or bad; propaganda with comments being distractive, impolitic and misconstrued can affect the quality of representation and transpiracy of good governance.

He expressed reservations about the responses of the federal government and the state responses to COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria as envisaged in the recent jump in the number of persons tested positive in Anambra.
