A group under the umbrella of Anambra South Concerned Citizens (ASCC) said it has uncovered plans to rig the re-run of election for Nnewi-North, Nnewi-South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency scheduled for February 2024.
The group alleged that the rigging arrangement was being planned and perfected by an influencial All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain to be executed at five pooling booths at the constituency.
The group which is accusing a top politian in the Anambra South Senatorial Zone APC warned that the electorate in the Federal Constituency should be allowed to vote their conscience and choice.
The concerned citizens said they gathered from a reliable source that the top politian had invited the would-be voters, collected all their voters cards in exchange for N10,000 each and has vowed to hold on to the voter’s cards until the morning of the election where they would be cajoled to vote for the candidate of the YPP who is a well known stooge to the APC top politian.
They wondered why the APC chieftain who has boasted of delivering the Nnewi-North, Nnewi-South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency to his party would stoop so low as to taking advantage of the economic hardship orchestrated by the APC he has joined to force people against their will by buying their voting power and keeping custody of same weeks before the election.
“The people must be allowed to choose between the candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Uchenna Eleodimmuo and his counterpart in YPP who has signed an undertaken to decamp to the APC immediately he is declared winner.
“Nobody should be forced by any means against their will especially using the harsh economic reality occasioned by the APC to buy their conscience and mortgage the Federal Constituency.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and all concerned stakeholders are hereby put on notice to call the APC chieftain in Anambra South Senatorial Zone to order as his desperate bid to prove his loyalty and capacity to the APC leadership is clearly against the wishes and interests of the Federal Constituency and must be told in clear terms to leave the people to make their choices.
“Ahead of the court-ordered supplementary election in five polling units in Nnewi North for Nnewi North Nnewi South and Ekwusigo National Assembly seat, the top APC politian in his unbridled desperation to win the seat for his puppet, Peter Uzokwe of YPP ordered the affected voters to surrender their voter’s cards to him as part of their commitment and loyalty to him in exchange for N10,000, “the group alleged.
“This act of desperation defies democratic reasoning and was deliberately orchestrated to dissuade the poor voters from voting their popular choice which is Hon. Uchenna Clement Nwachukwu Eleodimmuo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), “they concluded.
