Obiano promises scholarships to late journalist kids

Anambra state Governor, Willie Obiano said he would offer scholarships to two children of the late journalist, Michael Egbuna Amuta.

The Governor made the announcement during the burial ceremony of the late journalist at Onitsha.

Obiano who was represented at the event by his Principal Secretary, Sir Willie Nwokoye, described late Amuta as a seasoned journalist who used his talent to create political awareness in the state and promote the good will within government circle.

He noted that late Egbuna Amuta’s sudden death came to him as a surprise and shock, noting that the Governor’s Media Group had lost a quiet soul and a formidable member.

Late Egbuna Amuta, whose corpse was laid to rest on Aug. 14 hailed from Ogbolieke Quarters of Onitsha, Anambra State.

Until his death, he was Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Media/ Grassroots Mobilisation. Prior to then, he had been Deputy Director News/Current Affairs Department of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS).

The burial ceremony was conducted Rev. Fr. Paschal Agbo as the chief celebrant.

A homily was delivered by Principal, Christ the King College, Rev. Fr. Charles Okumuo, who lamented the sudden death of Egbuna whom he described as a good Christian.

“He was a talented and seasoned journalist, whose interest lies in speaking the truth without fear or favour.

“Egbuna showed great commitment and dedication to the service of God and humanity, nothing ruffled his composure, which endeared him to the Governor.”

Speaking with Information officer after the Mass, Mr Bob Manuel Udokwu, member of GMG described late Egbuna as a very good fellow who knew and practiced his job very well.

He prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest.

Nnanyelugo Frank Amuta, who spoke on behalf of the family, expressed his gratitude to all who came to mourn with them.

He thanked Gov. Obiano for his magnanimous offer of scholarship to late Amuta’s two children.

He was survived by his wife, five children and numerous relations.
