Bus driving against traffic zooms off after causing terrible accident at Onitsha

An L300 Mitsubishi Bus driving against traffic at Upper Iweka, Onitsha in Anambra State, reportedly fled after it caused a serious head-on-collision with a HiJet shuttle truck.

The incident happened on Friday at down flyover in Upper Iweka.

Confirming the incident to The DAILY VENDOR, the Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, RC Pascal A. Anigbo said the driver of the Mitsubishi L300 bus was driving against traffic when it involved in a head-on-collision with a Hijet Shuttle.

He added that the Mitsubishi L300 Bus driver escaped from the scene with the vehicle after the accident.

Anigbo said the fleeing bus registration number was not noted.

Adding that one person was injured in the crash and was rushed to the hospital.

“At about 1.12pm today Friday 6 June, 2020 a serious Road Traffic Crash involving a white coloured Hijet shuttle with registration number SLX761XA and a maroon coloured Mitsubishi L300, which drove against traffic. The L300 bus zoomed off after a head-on-collision with the shuttle. The vehicle number was however not noted.

“Out of the Four adult males involved in the crash, One sustained some degree of injury, no death was recorded. The injured victim was rushed to Boromeo Hospital, for immediate medical attention. The FRSC rescue team from Upper-Iweka Outpost equally cleared the obstruction caused, to ensure resumption of free flow of traffic.

“The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, strongly warns drivers against dangerous driving, including driving against traffic (Route Violation). Motorists are advised to obey Road Safety Rules and Regulations, in order to eradicate Road Traffic Crashes on our highways,” Anigbo said.
