The Anambra State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has expressed its resolve to digitalize the entire system to comply with international best practices.
Chairman of the commission, Bar. Vin Ifeanyi Ezeaka disclosed this on Wednesday during the digital literacy training for Local Government Employees organised by Integral Development Konsult(IDK).
He said appointments in the commission would henceforth be given only to staff that are computer literate.
He said, “This programme is one of the pillars of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration’s initiative to digitalize the state and make it a prosperous and liveable homeland.
“The Governor has approved this programme to ensure every local government staff is computer literate. After this training, there shall be no appointment of Heads of Department or any position if you’re not computer literate.
“We’re digitalizing the entire system of the commission, including an ICT center fully furnished with computers and will be connecting all local governments online.”
While challenging participants to take the training seriously, Ezeaka warned that abscondment from the training would not be tolerated.
“The government is investing hugely on this programme. There are two consultants handling this. This shows we’re not joking. I’ll personally supervise the exercise to ensure certificates are issued to those who are qualified for them.
Declaring the workshop open, Governor Chukwuma Soludo said the local government remained critical to his administration, reiterating his commitment to invest in its human and capital development.
Soludo, represented by his Chief of staff, Ernest Ezeajughi charged the workers to replicate the governor’s commitment in their various places of responsibilities.
“We’re investing tax payers money in the project, including laying of 2000 fibre optic cables. We want you to keep accessing our performances and scorecards,” he said.
Earlier, Managing Consultant, IDK, Chinwe Nweke said no fewer than 400 participants were targeted to be trained, saying 250 have already registered for the exercise.
Among dignatories that graced the occasion included Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Affairs, Collins Nwabunwanne, President, NULGE, Anambra State chapter, Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe and others.
