The newly elected executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State led by Rt.Hon. Allwell Asiforo Okere has been inaugurated with a charge to sustain the existing peace and ensure that the party consolidates on her winning strides in the state in the 2023 general election.
The new PDP members who emerged at the last Saturday’s successful state congress of the party held at the state capital, umuahia were today(Tuesday) administered with an oath of office at the state secretariat by Barr. Emeka Eze from the national office of the party in Abuja.
Speaking after they were sworn-in, the state Governor Dr. Okezie lkpeazu charged them to steer the ship of the party to ensure that the formidable and peaceful structure bequeathed to them is sustained from the ward to the local government as well as to the state level.
The Governor who was represented by his deputy Dr Ude Okochukwu told the new exco that “the duty of your team is to embark on the exercise of bringing in new members into the party as well as ensuring that those who had left the party due to any grievances are welcomed and returned back to the PDP family “
He told the new chairman that the task ahead of him is a new challenge and entirely a different terrain that needs wisdom reminding him that to who much is giving that much was also expected.
He said ” the place is a new terrain with peculiar challenges and the new leadership must ensure that all are carried along in the task of building the party to formidable capacity to win all the elections come 2023″
In his speech, the new chairman of PDP in the state Dr. Asiforo Okere thanked God and all members of the party for the success of the day both from the peaceful Congress to their inauguration today.
He said ” I stand here with mixed feelings of joy and sadness. I am excited and happy that the dream has been actualised by God’s Grace but sad because in the past few months we have lost many notable members of our great party including our immediate past chairman , Chief Johnson Onuigbo, Chief Allen Nwachukwu, Dr Solomon Ogunji, Hon Dan Egbogu, all party chieftains that had contributed and made our party great and formidable “
He said “my emergence as the chairman of our great party is a collective effort of all the critical stakeholders of the party led by our indefatigable Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu.”
Dr Okere said” it is not only a time to click the glasses or time to go to the dancing floor but a time to sustain the laudable efforts of our great party both at the state and national level “
He urged all members at the different strata of the party to join the new team to give the party success assuring that his doors will be open to listen to all members of the party and tackle all challenges that may arise in the party.
He said “this umbrella handed over to me is so large to accommodate everyone. We shall stand on justice and fair play in determining all our decisions. All our fleeing members should return because you can’t a mansion and leave it to be beaten by the rains elsewhere “
He took a minute and urged all members to stand up where he officially handed the new team and the entire party to God.
