Anambra man goes blind for defiling neighbour’s year old daughter

A middle-aged man has been blinded by a deity, popularly known as Ita (pronounced Ị̀tà) for allegedly fingering and defiling his neighbor’s one-year-old daughter in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The suspect, identified as Friday Ameh was said to have been dragged to the deity in Ikem village in Nando, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state after denying committing the crime.

The suspect, in a viral video was seen being interrogated by the Chief Priest of the deity before the villagers who gathered at the shrine to watch the drama.

During the interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, attributing it to devil’s handiwork, just as he pleaded for mercy and forgiveness from the deity and the villagers.

He also attested to had initially denied the allegations when he was accosted by the villagers, which forced them to drag him to Nando to swear before the deity to prove his innocence.

He further confirmed that the deity had cursed him with blindness for being guilty and at the same time denying it.

When contacted, Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga said he had no information on the incident, but pledged to take the necessary actions.

“I don’t have any information on this, please. I will reach out to the stakeholders in Nando, to ascertain the authenticity of the incident and possibly to arrest the suspect,” he said
