A group of youths of Nkerehi/Umuchukwu community in Orumba south Council of Anambra state under the aegis of Idi N’otu Mamma peace initiative on Wednesday afternoon, August 24,2022 stormed Gov Chukwuma Soludo’s office to protest over perceived moves to foist one Barrister Kenneth Madukaji on the community as traditional ruler.

The group led by Arinze Ibe, and Chukwuma Obi in their presentation urged the Governor to halt any attempt at certifying anyone as their traditional ruler until they successfully restore normalcy in Nkerehi /Umuchukwu.

They reiterated that peace which eluded the town in the past 16 years has gradually being restored on the intervention of Idi N’otu Mamma.

They therefore expressed shock at some information rocking the town that the governor in concert with the Hon Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs to certify Kenneth Madukaji. This was in the midst of the nearly two decades of lack of peace.

According to Arinze Ibe, “peace eluded us since 2006 and today Idi N’otu kamma has moved in to restore peace. It’s after we successfully conclude the peace process that the issue of selection and enthroning of traditional ruler would come up.”

Chukwuma Obi who also addressed the Chief Security officer to Gov Soludo who received the protesters at the Government House gate noted that the five villages making up the community were all represented in the peaceful protest march.

Some of their placards bore, “let’s get peace first before igweship election in our town “, “any crooked attempt to get igweship certificate will affect the ongoing peace process between Nkerehi /Umuchukwu now.

Hon Nwabunwanne, come to our aide”

The CSO to the Governor commended their peaceful disposition and assured that their matter would be laid before the Governor.
