Hoodlums attack warehouse, cart away COVID-19 palliatives in Edo

Hoodlums had a field day on Saturday when they attacked a government warehouse on Medical Store Road, Uselu, and looted COVID-19 palliatives stored in the warehouse.

The thugs, who had earlier in the morning, been prevented by military personnel from carrying out the act, succeeded in breaking the human shield mounted by the military and entered the store in their scores.

No incident of shooting was recorded as the miscreants, mostly youths, carted away food items from the warehouse.

Many, however, sustained varying degrees of injuries in the ensuing rush.

In a statement, Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said upon receipt of relief materials, there has been an ongoing process of distribution for the past seven months to the vulnerable and poor population to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

He noted that most of the items in the warehouse had been distributed.

Similar palliatives warehouses had been looted in Lagos, Jos, Kwara, Osun, Akure, and many other major cities.

There have been reports of widespread violence, arson and looting in the country as hoodlums took advantage of the #EndSARS protests to wreak havoc and cause mayhem in the country.
