FRSC intercepts Human Trafficker in Anambra, recues 5 victims

The Anambra State Sectorof Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday intercepted a suspected human trafficker and rescued five victims at about 2.00pm.

The Sector Head of Operations, Anthony O Ogbodo(DCC) in a statement said that the suspect, thirty six year old Frank Lucky, was arrested along Onitsha-Awka Expressway in Anambra.

He said that the suspect was arrested by FRSC patrol team led by Ugochukwu Ogbonna(RC) when he stopped a black Nissan Primera vehicle with registration number BEN468HP, for an offence of seat belt violation (SUV) and Obstruction of Marshal on duty (OMD)

Ogbodo said that the FRSC patrol team had earlier set out to book the driver for seat belt violation but on closer inspection, noticed five girls inside the vehicle which raised their suspicions.

He said that the vehicle was impounded and taken to the Command where the driver was interrogated.

The súspect according to Ogbodo claimed that he was taking the girls to work as house helps and farmers in his family farmland in Benin, Edo state.

Ogbodo said that the victims said they were from Vande Ikya in Benue also claimed that they were going to Benin to sell pepper soup and beer in a beer parlor.

He said that the case has been reported to FRSC Headquarters where a directive was given to alert the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in the state for further investigations.

Ogbodo said that the suspect and the victims have been handed over to Mrs Judith-Chukwu Ibadin, the State Commander, NAPTIP in Anambra in compliance with the directive from FRSC Headquarters.
