Former Speaker, Yakubu Dogara Speaks On 2023 Presidential Ambition

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has finally addressed the growing rumour linking his defection to the politics of 2023 presidency.

In a statement by his media aide, Turaki Hassan, on Sunday, August 23, Dogara stated that his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), is not about his political ambition, rather his focus presently, is about how to help “rebuild and reposition the APC in Bauchi state.”

The DAILY VENDOR reported earlier that the ex-Speaker dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party he joined barely few months to the general elections in 2019, for the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) on Friday, July 24, 2020.

This was revealed after Dogara, led by Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni, met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Dogara, in his letter of resignation, addressed to the Bogoro ‘C’ ward chairman of the PDP, said the deviation of governance in Bauchi State inspired his defection.

Reacting to the development then, the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), of the PDP, Walid Jubrin, said the pursuit for the 2023 presidential or vice-presidential nomination of the APC might have prompted Dogara’s decision to rejoin the ruling party.

Addressing the speculations linking him with the 2023 presidency, the lawmaker said 2023 is still far away and added that the rumours are being peddled by the Bauchi State Government.

He said: “It has come to our notice that stories and images are being circulated on social media to the effect that His Excellency, Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara is running for the office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for President in 2023.

“Our initial decision was to ignore them since they are utterly baseless but it appears that the promoters of this fallacy are unrelenting in spreading the falsehood and have now succeeded in making it sound believable to the extent that even some conventional and ‘credible’ media platforms are beginning to take it up,” Dogara stated.
