A 56-year-old man, identified as Ọkpara has been arrested for allegedly defiling his 11-year old daughter in Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State.
The suspect, a native of Adazi-Enu, Anaocha Local Government Area of the state, but resident in Onitsha, was reported by a neighbour after observing the little girl was limping.
The victim, during interrogation, confessed to have suffered defilement by her father after the death of her mother three years ago.
She said the father usually had carnal knowledge of her every night, with a threat to kill her if she disclosed the act to anyone.
She said, “My father started taking advantage of me after my mother’s death in 2020. He became overly protective of me by not allowing other family members, friends and relatives to come close.
“He usually have carnal knowledge of me every night and threatened to kill me if I ever tell anyone, and that is why I have not raised alarm.”
The suspect however denied the allegation,
but tests conducted on the girl at the hospital proved she was defiled.
“Her limping has nothing to do with sexual abuse. My daughter started limping after falling from down from a refrigerator,” he said.
Reacting, Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo promised to get to the root of the matter to ensure justice was served.
Obinabo who deployed her staff to the scene of the incident, said the suspect would soon be arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate Court, Awka.
