The assessment of Chinedu Obigwe, the pen pusher, about the political value of Prof. Peter Umeadi, Presidential Candidate of APGA in 2023 missed the mark. The question is what did Chinedu Obigwe contribute to the campaign to improve the 5 votes he said our candidate got in his ward where he received monthly stipends as a media person?
Peter Umeadi is worth his weight in political value in Nigeria. At the Arise Presidential Town Hall Series Two on Sunday, November 13, 2022, he displayed his mettle. Earlier at the NBA Conference Presidential Candidates outing, Bold Transitions, on Monday August 22, 2022 he participated. The day after, on Morning Show of Arise Television Reuben Abati asked the NBA President Olumide Akpata what he thought of the submissions of the presidential candidates who turned up for the opening ceremony. Olumide Akpata responded, that his take away was what Hon. Justice Umeadi who is candidate for APGA said, that one of the things he would get rid of if he got into power is self interest.
The NBA President continued in his own words that self interest is the bane, the problem, that self interest is the issue. With all modesty and humility that is the APGA presidential candidate assessed for political value and quality by those who should know. There was the ICAN Presidential Debate, Presidential Town Hall by National Human Rights Commission and United Nations Nigeria and many more. There were interviews on radio, television, print media and rallies.
We remember that Chinedu Obigwe invited himself to be media person to our candidate, as enforcers do, brandishing the name of a good friend of our candidate who is a protocol officer in government. It was a big issue to us knowing his penchant for vitriol and abrasive journalism. Mr. Obigwe was politely told at his interview that he would be expected to upload materials given to him which he accepted. He submitted names of the team to work with him which was reduced to four. He and his team and the rest of the media persons numbering about 20 submitted their bank accounts and began receiving monthly stipends from our candidate.
Mr. Obigwe may bring his bank statements for the period of the presidential campaign and it would show records of his monthly salaries. Mr. Obigwe promoted the Peter Umeadi Manifesto which stand on the triple banner of rule of law, separation of powers and due process. The Manifesto proposed the philosophy of social progress where Nigerians are able to achieve their life ambitions in a setting presenting a level playing field on predetermined standards.
Our candidate joined APGA on 20/3/2019 and not in 2022 as he wrongly stated. The same day our candidate joined APGA, he announced his intention to run for President of Nigeria under APGA. Our candidate have been promoting APGA all over Nigeria since 2019. Within 2019 and 2020 the posters of our candidate appeared in all local governments across Nigeria bearing APGA logo. The Governor of Anambra State at that time was Chief Willie Obiano. On 2/5/2021 Senator Victor Umeh invited our candidate to his home where the gubernatorial aspirant of APGA Prof. Charles Soludo CFR was hosted and our candidate spoke at that event as the presidential aspirant of APGA. Our candidate openly campaigned for APGA in the gubernatorial election of 2021. On 1/6/2022 our candidate was returned as presidential candidate of APGA and his certificate of return was signed on 6/6/2022 by the National Chairman Chief Dr. Victor Ike Oye, Ozonkpu.
We have it on good authority that Chinedu Obigwe was dangling some millions of naira to some APGA members to recruit 3000 young Anambra men who would vote for a political party, not APGA, in the presidential election. The APGA members who are still alive rejected the offers. Yet he is bandying that our candidate got only 5 votes in his ward on election day. Before we proceed it would be important to find out from him how many votes APGA scored in the presidential election in the ward of Mr. Obigwe and the ward of the Governor of Anambra State. Our candidate was not running for councillorship election but for presidential election. Go and check the votes of APGA in Delta, Zamfara and Jigawa States for instance and compare them with the result in Anambra State where we have an APGA government.
Let it be repeated here that Peter Umeadi and APGA scored votes in all the local governments across Nigeria in the presidential election of 2023. This feat was made possible because our candidate galvanized all the State Chairmen of APGA, met with them frequently and put them on a platform. Further he put all the over 200 candidates across the country running under APGA on one platform. These platforms exist till today.
Mr. Obigwe is aware that there were direct orders to party members including candidates not to vote for Peter Umeadi of APGA in Anambra State. Yet he did not write about such even when he received monthly salary as media person to our candidate.
We are sure he remember the post by Angel Folorunsho, Special Media Adviser to our candidate and how when he was rebuked for disturbing our candidate’s sleep over it scrambled to write what you wanted over it. If APGA had won Anambra in the presidential election which it had the potential to do with a government and a qualitative candidate it would have changed the political equation..
Peter Umeadi is the face of APGA in Nigeria by merit and would remain so until another presidential candidate is returned in 2027. When our candidate complain the lack of support from the party and government it does not translate to money. It means to stand shoulder to shoulder and fight for a presidential election as it is done in other political parties which was absent in APGA. Whatever votes accruing to APGA nationwide in the presidential election 2023 were spearheaded by the sole efforts of our candidate. No material or moral support from party or government.
