Two brothers lynched, set ablaze over extortion in Onitsha

Two brothers from same parents were on Wednesday lynched and set ablaze by angry mob for extorting and robbing tricycle and commercial bus drivers in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The deceased, simply identified as Omuma and Sunday, were said to be carrying out the act around Haruna/Bida junction, near Oniitsha main market, despite recent launch of anti-touting squad by Governor Chukwuma Soludo

The Daily Vendor gathered that they met their waterloo following alarm raised by their victims which attracted sympathizers and onlookers who mobilized, lynched and set the two ablaze.

According to a trader there who pleaded anonymity, “Those two touts have been terrorising us, this is not the first time they have been robbing and extorting traders, tricycle and bus drivers.

“They are from the same parents. They are a terror group and always operated within main market axis.  Everybody knows them and they belong to one terrorist called Ikanda.

“They don’t want to know about the launch of the anti touting. They operate in the open and people fear them including some security operatives because they attack them too.

“We are happy with what happened today; their cup is full. Soludo should beam his search light on the group. They are the main touts in Onitsha.”

Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga condemned the jungle justice, saying investigation had commenced.

He said,”The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has condemned the act and reiterated his call for members of the public to always take criminal offenders to the nearest Police Station for necessary policing actions, particularly the conduct of appropriate investigations.

“The CP has therefore, ordered a thorough investigation of the incident.
