No more than a week after four persons lost their lives in a gas explosion in the Ajao Estate area of the state Lagos, Another gas explosion has rocked Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, leaving one person dead.
The incident occurred at Alafia bus Stop beside Atlas, in Orile Iganmu axis.
Nosa Okunbor, spokesperson, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said the agency’s Response Team, LRT, recovered a dead body in the explosion.
A 35 – year- old man , Ajibola Olaoye , was said to be killed in the gas explosion and It was gathered that four others, who sustained varying degrees of injury , were rushed to hospital for treatment.
It was gathered that the Monday explosion was caused by gas leakage from a cylinder being used to weld the flatbed of a truck .
Our correspondent was told that responders at the scene included men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency , Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and Lagos State Fire Service .
The officials were assisted by some policemen attached to the Amukoko Police Division .
The Head of Public Affairs , LASEMA , Nosa Okunbor , who confirmed the incident , said the remains of the victim had been handed over to his family.
He said , “Upon our arrival at the scene of the incident , we discovered that there was an explosion from a gas cylinder used in welding a truck flatbed, as a result of gas leakage from the cylinder.
“LRT, Police, LNSC and LASG fire service are responders at the scene as the entire area have been cordoned off to prevent any secondary incident.
“An adult male lost his life at the scene of the incident and four adult males sustained different degrees of injury and were rushed to the hospital before the arrival of the LRT . The deceased was bagged by the LRT and handed over to his family in the presence of officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Amukoko division. ”
In the last one week, three gas explosion has rocked Lagos, leading to the death of two people.
