APC candidate’s building razed in Onitsha

A storey building office apartment at No 52 Awka Road, Onitsha, Anambra State was gutted by fire on Sunday.

The fire which started around 1pm, which was reportedly caused by power outage.

The affected building is housing the office of a candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.

The Fire Chief Engr Martin Agbili who confirmed the incident, said no life was lost in the inferno.

He however advised residents to always switch off all electrical and electronic appliances especially when not in use.

He said, “At about 1300hrs (1.00pm) of today 25-12-2022, Anambra State Fire Service, received a distress call of fire outbreak at No 52 Awka Road, Onitsha of a one storey building office apartment.

“Immediately, we deployed our fire truck and our ever ready and fearless Firefighters to the fire scene. We swift into action, battled the fire, controlled and fought is to standstill.

“The cause of the fire was suspected power surge. No life was lost during the fire incident. 

“It is important to know that we must always switch off of our electrical and electronic appliances especially when it is not in use.

“We must also know that we are at the peak of the HARMATTAN. Avoid anything which can cause fire outbreak at this season.”
