KHYBER: Three policemen martyred while nine other including two civilians were injured when two suicide bombers who tried to enter the official compound of Bara tehsil administration offices blew themselves up at main enterance gates on Thursday, police said.
Police said a Suzuki car came and tried to enter the official compound where offices of CTD police,assistant commissioner,tehsildar and other government officials’ offices are situated.
Police said as the car reached a person came out of it and cut the barbed wire they placed a few yards away from the main gate.
They said one one of bomber approached towards the gate who was shot injured and he blew himself up while the other was targeted at main gate who was approaching towards them to enter the official compound.
Eye witnesses told media that two bombers in a car rushed to enter the compound but police timely opened gun fire on them. They said one of the bomber blasted near the gate while another blew himself near the police checking point established at the front of main official compound gate.
Police said the bombers were in police uniform when they reached outside of the officials compound. They said the threat alert had been circulated days before as they had put security on high alert.
“The bombers first opened gunfire on police and prceeded towards the officials compound’, the police repulsed the un fire and shot dead one of them while the other blew himself up”, police said.
The police personnel identified as Bahadar Sher,Tayyab Afridi and Muhammad Anwar martyred in the suicide attacks.
Nine persons including two civilians were also injured in the blasts.
Later,the funeral prayer of the slain cops was offered in Police lines and laid to rest with official honor.
A large number of civil and security forces officials,elders and others attanded the funeral prayer.
Militant group claimed the attack on police.
