One trapped to death, four injured as vehicles collide in Anambra

One person lost his life while four others were injured in a fatal crash along Onitsha- Nteje-Awka expressway in Anambra State.

The crash which occurred Sunday evening before Ukpo junction, involved a truck with Registration. Number: JUX 95 XA and Honda CRV with Registration Number: LFA 224 TN.

According to eyewitness, the CRV driver, who is the deceased was about entering junction when the truck coming from opposite direction rammed into it, following loss of control.

“Driver of the CRV was about entering Ukpo junction when the truck coming with speed out from Ukpo junction, lost control of the truck, fell on the CRV and crashed,” the eyewitness narrated.

Confirming the incident, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi said the deceased was the driver of the CRV, attributing the cause of crash to speed and loss of control.

He sympathized with the deceased family and prayed for the injured, just as he warned motorist to desist from excessive speed and ensure their vehicles were road worthy before embarking on a journey.

He said, “A fatal road traffic crash was recorded today 16th April, 2023 before Ukpo junction, along Onitsha- Nteje- Awka Express way, between two vehicles, a Commercial Howo truck (10 TYRES) with Registration. Number: JUX 95 XA and a Private Honda CRV with Vehicle Registration Number: LFA 224 TN.

Driver name: Okoroafor.

“The probable cause of the fatal road traffic crash was Speed, loss of control by the Truck driver.

“Five persons were involved in the crash comprising (5 male adults) 4 male adults sustained varying degrees of injury and 1 male adult was killed (driver of the CRV).

“The crash victims were rushed to Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka.

“Meanwhile, the dead victim is still trapped under the truck. Efforts is being made by FRSC personnel at RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command to remove the trapped body. 

“Personnel on ground are managing traffic ensuring obstruction caused is cleared.”
