We have capacity of accommodating 4,000 corps members in Anambra – NYSC

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State has assured of its capacity to take adequate care of number of corps members deployed to the State for their national service.

State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Iruma gave the assurance during the opening of Orientation Course for the 2023 Batch ‘C’ (Stream II) corps members deployed to this state.

She said a total number of 2,005 corps members, comprising 1,029 males and 976 females have been registered and were already adjusting to camp life and activities.

She said, “We have accommodation for 4,000 corps members and we have the capacity of taking care of large number. 

“At the moment, we have a total of 2005, which may likely increase with those whose husbands are resident in the State.

“But we have the capacity to take care of them and the state government has assured us of continued support and cooperation.”

She added, “Usually, the females come in larger number than the male. This is influenced by the number of married, pregnant and nursing mothers whose husbands are resident in the State. 

“We insist their postings were changed because we don’t like separating families as we can’t afford to put asunder what God has joined together.

“It’s a surprise that for once, the male corps members outnumbered the female. However there are those we’ve given provisional registration yet to have their documents vetted and cleared. On the long, the number may end up equalising.”

Describing the batch of corps members as one of the best in recent times, Iruma revealed that no issues of misdemeanour and misconduct had been recorded since their arrival, urging them to keep up with the spirit.

“Since their arrival, they’ve exhibited high level of discipline, they’re amenable to training and development. They listen and adhere to instructions meticulously.

“Besides, we’ve not had issues with them. We have a camp court which dispenses with matters of misdemeanour, misconduct and the likes. Nothing of such had come to the camp court.

“There are lots of indication that these ones are well behaved and we’re proud of them.

Declaring the camp open, Governor Chukwuma Soludo congratulated the corps members for being among lucky ones to be posted to the State, assuring them of provision of their welfare needs and security. 

“My administration shall treat you as critical national assets by ensuring the provision of your welfare needs. In the same vein, adequate security for all shall be my topmost priority. 

“Already, security agencies who are always working in synergy are constantly on ground to protect you in and around your lodges, places of primary assignments and host communities. Equally, I shall continue to pay your monthly state allowance as and when due.

“With the knowledge of all these measures by government, you ought to relax and tap maximally from the content of the orientation programme meticulously, articulated for you.  

“Undoubtedly, the experience of the camp would assist you tremendously in the remaining three cardinal programmes of the scheme after this orientation course.”
