Rivers: Nigeria Army Troops Restore Peace to Oyigbo LGA

Troops of the Nigerian Army and the policemen have restored peace and calmness to Oyigbo Local Government Area in Rivers State following fresh mob attacks in the area.

The State Police Command reported that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra were responsible for killing two of its operatives and burning of two police stations in the area on Wednesday.

He also added that gunshots filled the air of the area from Thursday night till Friday morning as soldiers battle with the hoodlums.

Governor Nyesom Wike had earlier placed a 24-hour curfew on the local government however,residents said they could not sleep because of the shootings.

The Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Gerald Aforji, commenting on the incident on Friday morning, said soldiers had intervened to restore calm in the area.
