Oba Agu Ovala: Holistic Approach Key to Grassroot Development – Anambra Monarch

Traditional ruler of Umuoba Anam community in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra state, Igwe (Sir) George Obalim Ekwealor has advocated for a holistic approach to peace, and development as well as security of lives and properties at the community level.

Igwe Ekwealor made the call while commemorating his 10th coronation anniversary and special Ovala as the Oba Agu II of Umuoba Anam Kingdom on December 29, 2023.

Ekwealor who doubles as Secretary of the Anambra North Zone Traditional Rulers Council, stressed the importance of active engagement of community leaders and people, groups, organizations, and other development stakeholders on matters related to peace, security, and development at the grassroots level.

He disclosed that his kingdom has enjoyed peace and prosperity since he ascended the throne because of constant engagements with relevant stakeholders within and outside the community.

He said, “I’m a traditional ruler who promotes peace and works hard to ensure sustained peace between our community and its neighbours, notably the Aguleri and Umueri communities.

“Whenever misunderstandings come up, they are amicably settled, and that has created an enabling environment for prosperity in the area. The fact remains that no meaningful development can take place in any village, community, town, or area where there is no peace.”

Ekwealor further disclosed that engagements with relevant stakeholders, including governmental and non-governmental organizations have resulted in improved security of lives and property as well as development.

According to him, the Ovala festival provided him with the opportunity to reward some persons who had contributed to the peace and development of the kingdom with chieftaincy titles.

Anambradaily gathered that about ten prominent sons and daughters of the community and non-indigenes bagged chieftaincy titles during the festival.

Some of the eminent personalities that were given the title included Victor Morba Omenwa (Mkpulu Onye kulu);Igboanugo David (Akuluo Uno), Nonso Ozoemene (Ugogbe Anam), Anthony Ikechukwu Idigo (Agu Anam), Peter Meze (Igbiligba Anam) and Oliaku Ateli (Ada Bali-ulu).
